Prayer for the Week

27th July

Jesus said ‘I am the true vine……….I chose you so that you might go and bear fruit’ (John 15)

Lord of the Vine, we are your branches; we want to bear more of your fruit.

May we be strong in Jesus and flourish

May we be rooted in Jesus and  fruitful

May we abide in Jesus and be blessed

May we bear the fruits of love,

20th July

Romans 8:16  ‘When we cry, “Abba! Father!”  it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God’

Our Father in Heaven how good it is to know that You are our Father and we are Your children.

May we never disappoint You in the way we treat others, and may they see in us qualities that reflect the light of Your love.

Bless and uphold us as only a loving Father can, Amen

13th July

Living Lord, all things are in your hands.

Your holy word invites us to trust in you and to be fearless

Your psalmist David reminded us that your goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.

Strengthen our faith, strengthen our care for each other and fill our hearts with your peace.

6th July - The Prayer of St Richard of Chichester

Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly, day by day.

29th June

“Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Saviour, and my hope is in You all day long.”  Psalm 25:4 & 5

Heavenly Father, as we travel through this week,

Use our hands to lighten the burden of others

Use our voices to carry your words of love and hope

Use our feet to follow in your footsteps

And use our hearts to transform the world.

22 June - A prayer for Midsummer

These are long days when the sun rides high above us, days to enjoy with you, our sustaining God.

Grant that we may see your vision of love and care in the sunlit faces of our world.

And may the light of God’s love guide us on the path of compassion and kindness.

15 June

Living Lord, all things are in your hands.

Your holy word invites us to trust in you and be fearless.

Your psalmist David reminded us that your goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.

Strengthen our faith, strengthen our care for eachother and fill our hearts with your peace

A prayer for Pentecost Week

As the disciples received the Holy Spirit as a gift of flame, so may we be strengthened as we carry that living flame in our hearts.

Help us Lord to pass on that light to brighten a dark land, warm cold hearts, illuminate closed minds and guide straying feet.

May Christ be a bright star above us and a clear way before us.

25th May

Holy Father, we thank you for all your grace and goodness.

As the disciples waited prayerfully for the coming of your Holy Spirit may we also be blessed with hope and patience.

We pray for those who feel especially disrupted: those whose life events and celebrations have been cancelled or postponed,
for children unsure about returning to school and those whose future hopes and dreams feel distant and uncertain.

And as we look towards Pentecost may we be strengthened in the Spirit to walk with the Lord in his risen life

18th May - A prayer for Ascension week

Holy Lord, at your Ascension a cloud hid you from sight.
We pray for those whose life is clouded by fear, worry or hostility.
In our difficulties, tiredness and disappointments lift us up.
As you blessed your disciples on the Mount of Olives we ask for your blessing on all who are working to support us, on ourselves and on all we hold in our hearts.
We ask all this is Jesus name,

11th May

Jesus said “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” – John 14, verse 1

Lord, in confidence we turn to you.
When we are overcome with fear, anxiety and uncertainty may yours be the peace that gives us strength to carry on.
As we go through this week, be with us in all we do and guide our feet and hands to do your will.
Protect all who are working in so many ways to serve and support us.
For the hope that endures and for the many blessings we have received we give you thanks.

4th May

Heavenly Father, we thank you for today, yesterday and tomorrow, for our families, our joys, our daily challenges and for all that makes us stronger.

As we remember V E day, we give you thanks for peace in our time and remember the sacrifices made by so many. As we fight our own battles may we draw strength from the memories of those who have gone before, both those who survived so much and those who did not come home.

When we may face our own difficulties guide us by your Spirit;
give us wisdom;
give us courage;
give us hope;
and keep us faithful now and always.

27th April

Loving God, we give thanks for the extended family of our community
assisting with the needs of all confined to their homes.

May every gift of love, every encouraging word, bring hope into lonely lives
and a blessing to the giver.

Bless all who work in stressful situations;
healthcare, teaching, law enforcement, social services and other occupations
where patience, love and perseverance
can wear thin, and daily stress levels rise.
Bless all who work to feed us, deliver our mail and parcels, empty our bins and repair our amenities.
Keep them safe and keep them well, equipped to follow their vocation through the most difficult of times.
And at the end of their day, grant rest. Amen

20th April
Father God we give you thanks for Jesus’ resurrection and all that it means.
The Risen Christ was revealed to the grief stricken women in the garden and we pray for all who are now grieving, afraid or in pain.
The Risen Christ was revealed to the disciples when He gave them breakfast by the lake and we pray for all who are caring for others.
The Risen Christ was revealed on the road to Emmaus and we pray for all we meet as we walk in our lanes and fields.
The Risen Christ was revealed to Thomas and we pray that our faith will be strengthened and our doubts removed.
We ask all this in Jesus name, Amen.

6th April - Holy Week

In these difficult times, as we honour Christ’s sufferings, may we gain strength to face our own.
May the Christ who walked to Calvary walk with us on our road.
May the Christ whose hands were wounded stretch out our hands to serve as we can.
May the Christ who loved us even on the Cross open our hearts to love each other.
So as we look towards the dawning of Easter Day, may the light of the Risen Christ always lighten our lives. Amen.
