Prayer for the Week

10th January - The Baptism of Christ

Jesus came from Nazareth ….. and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, he saw heaven opening and the Spirit coming down on him like a dove.

Mark 1, verses 9 & 10

Heavenly Father, at the beginning of this New Year we pray that you will fill your church throughout the world with your holy spirit.

Remind us daily of our baptism in Christ and the ever present possibility of a fresh start and new beginning in Him day by day.

Lord, be a tower of strength amidst shifting sands and fix our hearts on you where peace may be found amidst turmoil and uncertainty.

4th January - Epiphany

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. (Isaiah 60:1)

As the Magi followed the light of the star to find the light of the Christ Child, we pray Lord that you would flood the world with your light.

Shine into drab places

Shine into despairing hearts

Shine into troubled minds

And bring to all the comforting glow of your love

28th December

God of love, Father of all,

Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we are feeling disappointed and troubled with all the changes in our lives, especially those which stop us being with our loved ones this Christmas.

6th December

God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.

be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre of our lives always,
and particularly this Advent time.

May Christ be a bright star above us and a clear way before us.
